Vic: Dog nappers avoid jail

MELBOURNE, Dec 9 AAP - Two men who stole a pet dog and threatened to kill it unless
the owner gave them a gun have avoided jail.

Scott Wilson, 19, and Andrew Davidson, 47, stole a Maltese terrier called Kimba from
a Melbourne home in March and left a ransom note.

The note demanded Kimba's owner give them a hand gun and ammunition or the pooch would be killed.

Wilson, of Croydon, and Davidson, of Warrnambool, pleaded guilty to theft and blackmail.

Wilson also pleaded guilty to burglary.

Victorian County Court Judge Duncan Allen today ordered the pair to serve community
based orders for two years.

Judge Allen said he would not record a conviction for either man.
