Vic: Hotel where Hookes died to close
MELBOURNE, Dec 30 AAP - Almost a year after former test cricketer David Hookes died
outside the Beaconsfield Hotel the once bustling St Kilda nightspot is reported to have
closed.
Zdravko Micevic, a former bouncer at the hotel, will face a Supreme Court Trial next
year charged with manslaughter over Hookes' death.
A former manager of the hotel Marcus Veedikint told The Age newspaper that the hotel
had closed its doors for good on Christmas Eve after a spate of incidents following Hookes'
death.
"The stigma was always going to be there," he told The Age.
"People were venting it at the hotel, windows were being broken, staff were being spat on."
Port Phillip Mayor Darren Ray said the owner of the hotel had approached the council
with a proposal for the construction of a five-storey residential tower on the site.
